Kokuyo Camlin goes green, plants 10 lakh saplings in one day

More than 10,000 school children, teachers, civilians, civil servants and eco warriors participated in an initiative organized by Kokuyo Camlin and the 130 BN Eco Task Force and also the forest department of Uttarakhand to plant 10 lakh saplings in a single day to make the Kumaon Hills green once again. The 130 BN Eco Task Force have been assigned by the Government of India to fight deforestation in the hills of Uttarakhand. The plantation activity was taken up by three companies of the 130 BN Eco Task Force in Pithoragarh region and one company from the Almoda Region. Saumitra Prasad, Chief Marketing Officer, Kokuyo Camlin Ltd, said, “We have been highlighting the need to save trees. We have successfully planted 10 lakh saplings today along with the efficient 130 BN Eco Task Force. We have an excellent association with 130 BN Eco Task Force since we had initiated a similar activity of planting saplings wherein we planted over one lakh saplings in Pithoragarh last year and received tremendous response to it. This is our small attempt to fight deforestation which has been a major cause for landslide, soil erosion and thinning of stream. Kokuyo Camlin emphasis on the use of Mechanical Pencils which does not use wood in its production and also provides a great writing experience. We are also creating awareness about these initiatives through our social media platform and hope that this will inspire children to be conscious and responsible to the environment.” The school children along with all the other participants were quite excited and animated while planting the tree with great enthusiasm. The trees that were planted have come out of the nurseries of 130 ETF and these trees will bear and provide fruit, fodder and timber. It is noteworthy that last year 130 Eco Task Force in association with Kokuyo Camlin had created a record by planting 103096 sapling with the help of 6000 + school students and civilians lead by the Chief Secretary of the state. The forest department of Uttarakhand also supported the Eco Task Force in this important operation. The District Forest Officer Dr. I. P. Singh and his team joined the plantation activity and appreciated the efforts put in by the volunteers. Commanding Officer of 130 Eco Task Force Col. Nandukumar B. who was leading the event thanked all the participants and supporters including the schools, district administration, police and forest department.

Woot Factor manages 'The Environment Crawl' at Mantri Mall, Bangalore

Mantri Square, a shopping centre in Bangalore, presented a unique and never seen before event to spread the message of sustainable environment. With every 5th of June being celebrated as World Environment Day, a cyclothon – “The Environment Crawl: Pedal for the Planet” was organized with the aim of spreading awareness about saving and preserving the environment and how one can fight climate change. This initiative was supported by “Go Green” – a cycling troupe and the event was conceptualized and executed by WOOT Factor Events Pvt Ltd. This initiative was encouraged and supported by Indian cricketer Mr. Karun Nair, IPS (security and vigilance) Mr. B.N.S Reddy, Mr. Aditya Sikhri, CEO, Mantri Developers (Retail and Commercial), Mr. Majid Mashfej (Head-Mall Management) and other dignitaries from Mantri Mall Management Team. The event was flagged of by Mr. Majid on 07:15 am at Mantri Square and moved to its first check-point - Government Pre-University College, Malleshwaram where the participants planted saplings with children of Shantidham charitable trust orphanage followed by a pit stop at Iskon temple for a brief snack break. The final stop was at the Rectangle Park opposite Mantri Square where the participants took up to watering plants. There was also an interactive session conducted wherein fans intermingled and clicked pictures with Mr. Karun Nair. Eventsource manages launch of Akshaya Patra Foundation's newest project

The Akshaya Patra Foundation has embarked on a pilot project ‘Giving Every Dream a Chance’ in the year 2015-2016. Akshaya Patra believes that every child has a dream and each dream is valid and hence intends to provide the right path to the child. The project aims to initiate a sponsorship programme to ensure continued support to 100 children, conduct mentorship programmes to nurture talents and to identify more children with unique dreams across the country. This unique programme was launched on June 11, 2016 at the Vivanta by Taj by Chief Guest, Mrs. Sudha Murty, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation, a benevolent supporter of Akshaya Patra. The event was presided by Shri Madhu Pandit Dasa, Chairman of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, in the presence of Mohandas Pai who also serves as an independent trustee of the foundation. Sushruthi Krishna, Femina Miss India Supranational 2016, graced the event in support of the initiative. Celebrated Bollywood musician duo of Sona Mohapatra and Ram Sampath presented the theme song which was exclusively composed for the initiative. Akshaya Patra launched the dreams of its three mid-day meal beneficiaries: Manjula, the debuting actress; Shivu, an aspiring astronomer and Shekar, a chef in the making. Akshaya Patra facilitated them with a two month mentorship programme wherein the children were tutored, groomed and guided by the experts in their respective fields. Manjula was mentored by Dr. Zulfia Shaikh, Founder-Director of Bangalore School of Speech & Drama. Shivu was tutored by Mrs. Preethi Krishnamurthy, a senior research fellow in astrophysics. Shekar’s passion for cooking was nurtured by renowned celebrity Chef Ramasamy Selvaraju, Executive Chef at the Vivanta by Taj. Shri Madhu Pandit Dasa said, “This initiative is to highlight the link between food and education. Once we provide the nutrition requisite for a child to grow healthy and smart― the vast universe of dreams, ignited by education, opens up new avenues for the child to explore; and nothing becomes out of reach for a well-nourished child. Let’s end classroom hunger- meal by meal and give every dream a chance - child by child.” Vivanta by Taj, MG Road, supported the initiative as hospitality partner while pledging to continue supporting Shekar till he achieves his dream.
