The upcoming World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (Waves) 2025 is set to debut in Mumbai between the last week of April and the first week of May. The summit, which aims to celebrate and enhance India’s creative and media economy, is being organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. It was previously to be held in the capital between 5 – 9 February this year.

As part of the Waves Summit, the Ministry is also introducing the inaugural season of ‘Create in India Challenge’. This initiative will feature a series of challenges designed to foster innovation and creativity. The four flagship challenges within this include:

  • Waves Reel Making Challenge in partnership with Meta
  • Waves Explorer Challenge in association with YouTube
  • Waves Chronicles: AI Comic Art Challenge in collaboration with Google Play
  • Waves AI Art Installation Challenge

These challenges look to unite creators, technologists, and innovators to explore the intersection of art, technology, and storytelling, further solidifying India’s position as a global leader in the creative economy.

The summit will feature the Waves Bazaar, a one-stop marketplace for the media and entertainment sector which expands on the concept of NFDC’s Film Bazaar by creating a platform for cross-sector collaboration, B2B meetings, and showcasing innovations.

Focusing on supporting startups in the media and entertainment sector, the summit will highlight its commitment to fostering entrepreneurial innovation. The platform will also host discussions on policy frameworks designed to create a supportive ecosystem for growth, job creation, and investment in the industry.

The Waves Summit is set to become a global stage for showcasing India’s creative talent, fostering collaborations, and establishing the country as a hub for world-class content creation. The event will spotlight India’s achievements in animation, gaming, entertainment technology, and both regional and mainstream cinema.

The Prime Minister’s call to action reinstates the government’s dedication to nurturing India’s creative economy and cementing its status as a global leader in the media and entertainment industry.
