Uttar Pradesh to Host Over 4,000 Yoga Sessions on International Yoga Day

The government also plans to combine yoga with environmental awareness through sessions held near rejuvenated water bodies

As part of the 10th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to organize yoga sessions at more than 4,000 locations across the state. The initiative aims to promote physical and mental well-being through the widespread practice of yoga.

To build momentum, the state will observe a “Yoga Week” from June 15 to 21. The week-long campaign will include mass yoga demonstrations, seminars, workshops, and cultural activities such as essay writing, slogan contests, and rangoli competitions across districts, tehsils, blocks, and village panchayats.

Principal Secretary of AYUSH, Ranjan Kumar, confirmed that 5,000 trained yoga instructors have been prepared to lead sessions throughout the state. AYUSH colleges and various educational institutions are actively involved in coordinating activities and mobilizing public participation.

On June 21, large-scale yoga demonstrations will be held simultaneously across the state, with a flagship "Yoga Sangam" program planned in every district. In addition, the state will contribute to the national initiative of establishing at least 1,000 yoga parks across India, with three parks earmarked for each divisional district and two for others. These will be supported by local urban bodies and panchayats.

The government also plans to combine yoga with environmental awareness through sessions held near rejuvenated water bodies (Amrit Sarovars), rivers, lakes, and parks, accompanied by tree plantation drives.

The celebrations will conclude on June 21 with a certificate and prize distribution ceremony recognizing active participants, reinforcing the state’s commitment to holistic health and sustainability.
