The Sutr Santati exhibition, celebrating the 75th year of India's Independence, will open on 18th August 2022 at National Museum Delhi. Sutr Santati exhibition will also travel to various Indian and international museums throughout the year taking the offering of Indian heritage textiles globally.
A first-of-its-kind exhibition that represents over 100 traditional Indian textiles by close to 75 participants and highlights the diverse interpretations of beautiful textile craftsmanship of India, designed to foster Indian pride.
As expressed by Lavina Baldota on reasons for choosing textiles showcase on the occasion of 75 years of India's Independence, "Gandhiji chose textiles to resurrect the Indian pride. Taking our textile artforms forward can play a vital role in solving socio-economic issues by helping to create a circular economy on a national level".
Key highlights of Sutr Santati, the Textile Exhibition-
- People involved in this collective venture include significant voices committed to the revival of textiles such as Rahul Jain, Radhika Raje, Mayank Mansingh Kaul, Purvi Patel, Gunjan Jain leading artisans, designers, craftsmen, multidisciplinary artists students from top design institutes and prestigious organizations working in this field.
- The exhibition will showcase a range of heritage weaves, dyeing, printing, and hand embroidery techniques, using traditional techniques and indigenous natural yarns. It will focus on craftspeople from various clusters pan-India involved in creating the textiles, honoring those who are playing a significant role in keeping these traditions alive.
- A wide array of traditional Indian textile painting and art forms are a major contributor to the exhibition and these include expressions of Gond painting, kalamkari, kamangiri, kali ghat, mata ni pachedi, Madhubani, natural dye chintz, phad, pichwai, patachitra and warli amongst others.
- Artisans: Waseem (kalamkari painted with ari, kani and handwoven pashmina jamavar); Vijay Guled (Ilkal), Shunya (Batik - Tagore poetry)
