In a cultural celebration, the Japan Foundation, in collaboration with the India Habitat Centre, presents the Japanese Classics Samurai Film Festival, a cinematic journey into the world of Japanese classics. Held at the India Habitat Centre, the 5-day festival kicked off with a screening of Akira Kurosawa's, 'Seven Samurai'.
The festival, curated by Murtaza Ali Khan for the Japan Foundation, promises to transport audiences to the era of Samurai epic films from the 1950s and 60s. Koji Sato, Director General, The Japan Foundation New Delhi, and Aoi Ishimaru, Director Arts graced the opening night.
The carefully selected lineup includes 'Kill!,' 'Samurai - I,' 'Throne of Blood,' and 'Yojimbo'.
Khan has previously curated retrospectives on filmmakers like Federico Fellini, Pier Paolo Pasolini, João Moreira Salles, Carlos Saura and Luis Bunuel. His experience also extends to curating film festivals spotlighting Ibero-American cinema, Spanish thrillers, and a festival dedicated to the city of Berlin.
