Tata Announces Upcoming 2026 Lakshadweep Taj Retreats

Lakshadweep, an archipelago consisting of 36 islands, is gaining prominence as a sought-after tourist destination. Renowned spots like Bangaram, Agatti, Kadmath, Minicoy, Kavaratti, and Suheli attract visitors seeking pristine beaches and vibrant coral reefs. As per media reports,Tata Group's Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) is set to open two Taj-branded resorts in Lakshadweep, specifically on the islands of Suheli and Kadmat, with a scheduled opening in 2026.

The islands came into the limelight after Prime Minister Narendra Modi showcased their beauty and pitched them as a potential tourist haven. This attention prompted discussions about the archipelago's infrastructure and its capacity to accommodate the anticipated surge in tourists.

IHCL, recognising Lakshadweep's tourism potential, expressed confidence in the destination's allure with its untouched beaches and coral reefs amidst the Arabian Sea. The Taj resorts, featuring world-class amenities, aim to attract both international and domestic travellers.

Among the islands, Kadmat has emerged as a stunning dive centre, offering captivating marine experiences. The Taj resort on Suheli will include 110 rooms, comprising 60 beach villas and 50 water villas, on a coral island with a large lagoon. Meanwhile, Kadmat Island, known as Cardamom Island, will host a Taj Hotel with 110 rooms, featuring 75 beach villas and 35 water villas in a marine protected area with seagrass beds.

"We see significant potential in Lakshadweep, with its pristine beaches and coral reefs set amongst the Arabian Sea", Puneet Chhatwal, MD and CEO, IHCL had said while announcing the signing of resorts last year, as per a media report. "The two world-class Taj resorts will attract international as well as national travellers."

Lakshadweep, situated in the Arabian Sea, is celebrated for its scenic beauty, encompassing exotic beaches, coral reefs, and lagoons. "It is a haven for water sports including scuba diving, windsurfing, snorkelling, surfing, water skiing, and yachting," the company said.

Prime Minister Modi, mentioning that he was "in awe of the stunning beauty of Lakshadweep", tweeted about its allure on 4 January, 2024 emphasising not only the scenic landscapes but also the tranquil ambiance that makes it a mesmerising haven for adventure enthusiasts. "For those who wish to embrace the adventurer in them, Lakshadweep has to be on your list."
