ShowCase Events to Execute Next Edition of ‘Sounds From The Desert’ on 26th April in Delhi
Conceived and executed by ShowCase Events, ‘Sounds From The Desert’ premiered to an awestruck Mumbai audience at the Royal Opera House in January and now makes its way to Delhi at the Sirifort Auditorium on April 26, 2019. A beautifully curated 90mins journey of the true soul of Rajasthani Folk music- LIVE!!
This show showcases the different instruments and folk songs in a theatrical pattern. The Show premier which happened in Mumbai on January 25th at the Royal Opera House, was very well received and has got very good reviews from the audience, the press and very senior music authors.
The show is the experience that takes you on a journey across the sands of Rajasthan with traditional, little seen instruments playing folk songs, all rendered by 18 amazing musicians led by multi-instrumentalists and vocalists par excellence, Kutle Khan. Backing him are musicians from legendary families such as Nathulal Solanki from Pushkar on Nagaras, Darre Khan of Jaisalmer on the Khamaycha carrying forward the legacy of the inventor of the instrument, his father, Padmashri Sakar Khan. Other musicians on instruments like the Khartal, Morchang, Bhapang, Alogoza, Dholak and Sindhi Saarangi hail from Bikaner, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Jaipur. The traditional folk dance- the Ghoomar is presented by the famous Sapera family ladies. A bit of pure classical Megh Malhar gives the show a well-rounded feel.
The organizers have carefully selected the 18 musicians from the different traditional families of Rajasthan and curated a show which showcases their talent.
At the centre of it all remains the incredible Kutle Khan. A man who took up music at age eight, he has mastered every instrument of Rajasthan be it the khartaal, morchang or bhapang or even the dholak, harmonium and sarangi! Classically trained, his vocals are par excellence and it’s little wonder that he has quickly become Rajasthan’s foremost music ambassador.
Nathulal Solanki, the Nagada maestro from Pushkar, plays the Unheard and forgotten Nagada rhythms.
The show has been curated by Atul Churamani, a music industry veteran, whose company Turnkey Music & Publishing Pvt. Ltd. curates the Paddy Fields folk / fusion festival in Mumbai.
