Oberoi Concours d'Elegance: Celebrating Automotive Heritage

As per media reports, the Oberoi Concours d’Elegance recently made waves in the realm of automotive enthusiasts by presenting a captivating display of classic cars and motorcycles at The Oberoi Udaivilãs, Udaipur from 16 to 18 February, 2024. This distinguished event held special significance as it coincided with the grand 90th anniversary celebration of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts.

Throughout its esteemed history, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts has consistently demonstrated commitment to showcasing and preserving Indian heritage, frequently hosting esteemed classic and vintage car rallies at its acclaimed properties. The Oberoi Concours d’Excellence curated a splendid collection of vintage automobiles and motorcycles from India and beyond, set against the picturesque backdrop of Lake Pichola. The exhibition featured extraordinary vehicles, including the 1925 Hispano Suiza H6B Transformable Limousine commissioned for the Maharaja of Mysore, the 1939 Daimler ‘Dolphin’ Tourer once owned by the Aga Khan, and the iconic BMW 328 symbolizing the brand’s prestigious automotive heritage and triumphs on the 1930s racing circuit. Adding to the regal ambiance, the event showcased vehicles from various royal collections, including Udaipur, Jodhpur, Gondal, Tehri-Garhwal, and Baroda. In a tribute to the late P.R.S. Oberoi, the showcase also featured a selection of Oberoi family cars, serving as a poignant homage to his enduring legacy. Additionally, The Oberoi Concours d’Elegance revealed an exclusive poster crafted by the renowned automobile artist, Tim Layzell.

The organisation of the event was led by Manvendra Singh Barwani, India’s automotive historian. Additionally, a group of classic car specialists from around the globe was invited to assess vehicles in various categories. Sandra Button, Chairperson of the renowned and globally celebrated Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, served as the Chief Judge. Esteemed judges, including multiple world champions Giacomo Agostini and Jacky Ickx, brought their expertise to the competition, ensuring that only the most exceptional vehicles received recognition. The seamless execution of the event was overseen by the acclaimed automotive expert Simon Kidston.
