NCPA@home brings to you a diverse cross-section of arts & culture in India

This weekend, NCPA@home, the digital series of the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) brings to you a literary session &performances by renowned artistic groups such as the Symphony Orchestra of India along with Sadanam Balakrishnan & troupe. With yet another week of archival performances that define a qualitative artistic exchange,NCPA@home takes you on a cultural escapade that will make your weekend worthwhile.

Please find below highlights:

Aruna Roy in conversation with Anuradha Sengupta 26 th June 2020, 6pm IST

Fifteen years ago, in the very month of June, the Right to Information law was passed by Parliament, and the act went on to become a watershed in Indian democracy. In this conversation, Aruna Roy narrates the story of a campaign that evolved into a people’s movement by asking questions and seeking answers to fight corruption and injustice, thereby becoming a voice for the voiceless.  Roy is a socio-political activist and founder-member of MKSS (Mazdoor Kisaan Shakti Sangathan) and NCPRI (National Campaign for People’s Right to Information).

Sengupta is a broadcast journalist. This event was part of Tata Literature Live, the Mumbai Litfest, held on 16th November 2018 at the NCPA.

Symphony Orchestra of India - Haydn: Symphony No. 104 in D Major" London"Marat Bisengaliev, conductor 27th June 2020, 6pm IST

Haydn’s Symphony No. 104, which was the last symphony written by him has been a favourite ever since its premiere in 1795. The composer wrote after the concert: “The whole company was thoroughly pleased and so was I.” This concert led by Music Director Marat Bisengaliev was part of the NCPA 50th anniversary celebrations. This performance was recorded live on November 26, 2019, at the NCPA.

Ravanodbhavam Kathakali by Sadanam Balakrishnan and troupe 28 th June 2020, 6pm IST

A humorous conversation between Ravana the king of Lanka and his brothers - Kumbhakarna and Vibheeshan. This performance brings storytelling that goes back to thousands of years when Ravana did rigorous and painful penance to Lord Brahma and obtained boons to conquer the three worlds. Sadanam Balakrishnan is a recepient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Kathakali and has received the Parishad Samman of Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi. Ravanodbhavam was performed as part of NCPA’s Mudra dance festival themed on humour Hasya in April 2019 at the NCPA.
