Jaipur National University offers doctorate to SGI President Daisaku Ikeda

Jaipur National University conferred the Honorary Doctorate to Daisaku Ikeda, President of Soka Gakkai International a Buddhist association, to honour his exemplary contribution in promotion of peace, culture, education and empowerment. 

He has received numerous academic awards and honorary doctorates from various institutions and universities around the world.

Soka Gakkai International is a Buddhist organisation, based on the philosophy of Nicheren’s teachings, committed to deep transformations in the depths of its members’ life, bringing about ripples of change in their immediate environment and society at large.

Hiromasa Ikeda, Senior Vice President, Soka Gakkai International and the son of Daisaku Ikeda graced the occasion with his presence and received the honour on behalf of the President.

Vishesh Gupta, Chairperson, Bharat Soka Gakkai, Preeti Bakshi, Executive Director, Jaipur National University and H.N. Verma, Vice Chancellor, Jaipur National University felicitated the occasion.

Preeti Bakshi said, “President Ikeda’s passionate commitment mirrors the ideology pursued at Jaipur National University. The President believes that in the end peace will be realized by holding life to life bonds of trust and friendship.”

Vishesh Gupta expressed that what characterized Daisaku Ikeda uniquely is his combination of great learning with the passion for peace. He said, “What sets Ikeda apart is the way he offers creative solutions to global problems like human rights, educational reforms and the diverse challenges that the global society is facing today in its efforts to realize peace and human security.”

Daisaku Ikeda believes that the task of education is to foster people of character who will contribute to building a just and peaceful world.

Hiromasa Ikeda delivered the acceptance speech on behalf of the President and expressed his heartfelt gratitude on receiving the doctorate from Jaipur National University.

He asserted that Jaipur National University embraces the ideals of student centered learning and upholds the highest standards of rigor and commitment as well as passion to learning over the course of one’s lifetime. He said, “I am deeply impressed by the university’s efforts to create an open learning environment, where students can develop their talent as they pursue their interest across different courses”.

The audience included guests, Soka Gakkai delegates from Japan and members of Bharat Soka Gakkai who were elated to witness the conferral ceremony of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda.
