In line with the thoughts of paying tribute to the unsung heroes of India during the celebrations of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the govt. of Assam under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma organized a 3-day grand affair at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi reecntly.
Some of the top attendees at this event included: Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Home Minister, Sh. Amit Shah, Hon’ble Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitaraman, Governor of Assam, Prof Jagadish Mukhi, Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Members of Parliament, Justice (Retd.) Ranjan Gogoi, Shri Topon Kumar Gogoi and Members of the Assam Government were present, among others.
Lachit Borphukan (24th November 1622 — 25th April 1672) was the famous General of the Royal Army of the Ahom Kingdom of Assam who defeated the Mughals and successfully halted the ever-expanding ambitions of the Mughals under Aurangzeb. Lachit Borphukan inspired the Assamese soldiers in the Battle of Saraighat fought in 1671 and delivered a crushing and humiliating defeat on the Mughals. The heroic fight of Lachit Borphukan and his army remains one of the most inspiring military feats of resistance in the history of our country.
This three-day mega-celebration can be considered as a small step to educate the rest of the nation regarding the unsung contribution of the Ahom dynasty towards defeating the Mughals.
An exhibition of the Ahom Dynasty was also put up along with the event to enhance the knowledge of the visitors with the glorious history of Assam at the premises of Vigyan Bhawan along with the life-size preview of the village life of Assam. The event has also seen multiple seminars on various subjects from the history of Assam to the modern-day contribution of the state towards the nation. The event was well received by Public where a huge crowd was seen attending various seminars, discussions etc.
The event was curated by Dr Navneet Kapoor from Square Communications. Nishith Kapoor, Ruchin Kohli lead the show with Garima Sawhney AVP Square communications to a great success which will be remembered by the people of Assam as well as the visitors for years to come.
