Covid-19 restrictions have been imposed in Goa from 6 am on May 3 till 7 am on May 10. According to the recent guidelines, Casinos, bars, sports complexes, river cruises, gyms, schools, colleges and weekly markets to remain closed. Only essential services to be allowed in the state during this time.
Even after re-opening, the business turnover within the months of October and November in Goa has been merely 20 per cent of normal. The importance of tourism to its economy is known to all Employment and livelihood of the various people within the state are enthusiastic to tourism.
As per the state health directorate lockdown is taking an important toll on the tourism sector in Goa. Tourist hotspots like Calangute and Candolim in North Goa will still be under lockdown, whilst the government has lifted the lockdown in other parts of the state.
The state reported a really high Covid-19 test positivity rate of over 50 per cent last week, following which the government has imposed the lockdown from April 29. Public transport will be shut while casinos within the state will also remain closed. Only essential services will remain open during the lockdown in Goa.
Goa CM Pramod Samant said that marketplaces also will be closed during the lockdown. The state may even see 200 to 300 Covid-19-related deaths per day within subsequent 10 days and accordingly a month-long lockdown to manage the spread of coronavirus has been suggested. There will be strict lockdown within the villages of Calangute, Candolim and Arpora-agoa. Tourist hotspots like Calangute and Candolim in North Goa will still be under lockdown, whilst the govt. has lifted the lockdown in other parts of the state.
