It was a few months back, I visited Camp Dev Vilas purely as a tourist and was little skeptical as to how the place would be. After working for more than 2 decades in the wildlife conservation and travelling to more than 100 wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, I have seen and stayed in most exotic abodes in wilderness.
Though I have been a major advocate for forest lodges where I have stayed for my workshops and the resort of forest department in Bijrani in Corbett, Sajnekhali in Sunderbans and Kalagarh training centre in Corbett are my favourites.
However, when it comes to private accommodations in forest and wildlife areas, I have stayed in the best luxury resorts in Ranthambore, Corbett, Kanha tiger reserve, Bannerghatta, Manas and Rajaji national parks. I have always thought that if a resort can be little rustic, spacious and is tied to the local roots, then it can mirror the local landscape of a tiger reserve or wildlife sanctuary.
In Camp Dev Vilas, I was stunned to find a rare earthiness, soulfulness, gratitude to nature and treating the guests with utmost care and sensitivity. The place takes you back to a slowness which your body and mind so desperately needs from time to time.
Some of the photographs below will illustrate the kind of landscape it has to offer.
Not only this, one can relax and enjoy the serene beauty of nature while having delicious breakfast and buffet meals. For kids there are ample choices of outdoor activities and games like badminton. To soothe ones senses, there is massage facility. The rooms available are very spacious equipped with ac available for peak summer periods and many other choices that can be selected depending upon one’s need. One can enjoy the bonfire at nights which are not only very useful during the chilly nights of the winter season but also provides for interaction with other visitors to Camp Dev Vilas.
Do not miss Camp Dev Vilas in Kanha tiger reserve and visit the place in all seasons as the hosts are naturalists, wild-lifers and promoters of soulfulness, slowness and gratitude.
