Virtual Actuarial Conclave 2022 Brings Together The Entire Actuarial Community on ibentos Virtual Event Platform

Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) took its two-decade old annual international actuarial conference virtual for the second times as Virtual Actuarial Conclave 2022 (VAC 2022) on 10, 11 and 12 February 2022. 

This mega  Conclave   held virtually in collaboration with its virtual event partner, ibentos, one of India’s leading event metaverse providers, helping event organisers around the world execute immersive virtual events. Conducted over a period of 3 days, VAC 2022 brought together eminent personalities from various sectors of India and rest of the globe, including insurance and finance. Themed around the topic, “Preparing for a New Era - Decoding Disruption”, VAC 2022 witnessed experts interacting, discussing and throwing light on how to decode disruption, interpret, analyse and respond constructively to changes happening in the Covid world around us. 

For the first time in the history of the institute, there was a very encouraging communication from the honourable Prime Minister.  VAC 2022 achieved a new stature this year by receiving a congratulatory letter from Shri. Narendra Modi who appreciated the efforts taken by the Institute of Actuaries of India in organising this mega annual event. In addition, Hon. Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, sent her words of encouragement for the organiser and appreciated the contribution of the actuarial community in developing the insurance sector and contributing significantly to the growth of the country.

Speaking during the conclave, Subhendu Bal, President of IAI and Chief Actuary & Chief Risk Officer, SBI Life Insurance said, “The IAI, along with industry experts and ibentos, put together a virtual event which was a great learning opportunity for one and all. More than 65 people in total from both the teams worked together to bring this event to life. ” With focus on climate risks, corporate risk governance and Covid-19, the event witnessed a combination of topics and discussions that mattered to the actuarial community and professionals from wider fields.  

“At VAC 2022, the main aim of IAI was to promote, uphold and enhance professional education, training, knowledge, practice, and conduct, amongst actuaries. VAC 2022 has facilitated young professionals with a great opportunity to meet with, and learn from, industry veterans, get one-on-one time with seasoned experts, and participate in various technical and professional sessions,” said Mr. Bal. 

In the virtual format, VAC 2022 was more accessible and global in nature and was a success at offering a sense of belonging to the entire actuarial community along with other professionals.  It had over 65+ international and national speakers, 25+ speaker sessions, 3+ stellar award ceremonies, with 250+ awards. It had dignitaries like Shri Supratim Bandyopadhyay, Chairperson, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority, India, Ms. Roseanne Harris, President International Actuarial Association and many more such personalities from around the world including several Presidents from the actuarial Institutes across the globe.

The Institute of Actuaries of India made a few significant announcementsat the platform. Mr Bal announced the launch of first-ever Olympiad of Actuarial Science for Indian Students (OASIS)to increase the awareness from the grassroot level and the Digital Version of the flagship actuarial magazine –The Digital Actuary India Magazine. With this, the event provided its attendees a brilliant opportunity to connect, engage and learn from the industry experts and feel a sense of belonging to the entire actuarial community.
