Uttarakhand Government Proposes Temples And Hills As Wedding Destinations

Uttarakhand is poised to seize the opportunity presented by the recent launch of the 'Incredible India' wedding tourism campaign by the Centre, aimed at promoting India as a premier wedding destination. The state is strategically positioning itself by highlighting its ancient temples and scenic hills as attractive wedding venues. Leading the charge is the Triyuginarayan Temple in Rudraprayag, steeped in mythology as the sacred site where Shiva and Parvati solemnized their union. Uttarakhand has taken the initial step by issuing a tender to engage consultants for the development of this unique wedding destination.

The State government of Uttarakhand has identified additional potential wedding destinations to market, including Jim Corbett National Park in Nainital, Narendra Nagar in Tehri Garhwal, and the Munsiyari hills in Pithoragarh. Furthermore, they are exploring the possibility of showcasing the George Everest peak in Mussoorie, named in honour of the British surveyor, as another enchanting wedding locale.

Local wedding planners have proactively established certain guidelines in consideration of the ecological and religious sensitivities of the region. For instance, at Triyuginarayan, there is a limit of 30 guests, and the playing of Hindi film music is prohibited.

The State government is further encouraging this initiative by providing subsidies to locals for the construction of homestays. Additionally, it is dedicated to enhancing air connectivity to Pithoragarh, thereby bolstering wedding tourism in Munsiyari.

While talking with The Hindu, Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said, “In Uttarakhand, we have several visually striking destinations already favoured by people for weddings, pre-wedding shoots, etc. The Triyuginarayan Temple, our new offering, is located at an elevation of 6,500 ft above sea level and offers not just a spectacular view but also a spiritual connection for couples on their big day.”
