TamilShaadi.com Presents ‘India’s Most Eligible Tamils.

TamilShaadi.com, a brand from the house of Shaadi.com, India’s No.1 matchmaking platform has unveiled its first edition of ‘India’s Most Eligible Tamils’ 2023. TamilShaadi.com has amassed lakhs of happy users to date and has over 10 years of expertise in the thriving matchmaking industry in the South. The study highlights valuable insights on marriage preferences among Tamil men and women based on factors like income, profession, age, and educational background, that hold significant value during the matchmaking process. It further enumerates statistical findings that state what Tamils look for while choosing a potential partner. TamilShaadi.com has come up with this almanac through meticulous data collection and analysis. The study effectively covers Tamils living across the country, right from the mountains of Kashmir to the beaches of Chennai and within Tamil Nadu from Tirunelveli to Tiruttani.

The research has been conducted on a user base of over 1 lakh members (male and female) who were active on Shaadi.com for the last one year and is based on per-day data. It brings to the fore the preferences of Tamils residing in India alone and who have been active members on the platform for at least one week during the last 12 months, which makes the research findings most specific and pertinent.

After the successful edition of “India’s Most Eligible” a country wide study, Shaadi.com brings the Tamil edition on the factors that affect the desirability of an individual in terms of finding a potential spouse.

Key Highlights :

Computer Engineered Love Rules

IT and Software Engineers are the most desirable for both males and females. Men in tech and IT are 105% more desired vs average, women techies are 30% more desired vs the average.

The desirability of a Master’s Degree in men

Men holding a Master’s degree are 2.5x more desirable than those with a Bachelor’s degree. For women, however, the desirability reduces marginally if one possesses anything more than a Bachelor’s degree.

Money Matters

For Tamils, both men and women recognize the significance of financial stability and independence. When marriage is in question, individuals earning over 30 Lakh per annum are seen as highly desirable partners.

Age hits men first

Contrary to popular narratives, age hits men harder in matchmaking, and after the age of 34 years their chances of finding perfectly suitable partners reduces significantly.

Age no bar

There are over 300 Tamil-speaking members on TamilShaadi.com, who are aged 60+ years and are looking for a partner. In fact, the oldest Tamil-speaking members on the platform are 70 years old, both male and female.

Increase in the average age of singles seeking matchmaking

The average age of starting the matchmaking journey has gone up by almost 2 years in the past decade, with men’s age going up by 2.2 years and women’s by 1 year.

Working women receive more love

Non-working women are 34% less desired than working women, reiterating the importance Tamils place on having double income households.

A female lawyer & a tech-professional rule hearts

According to the study findings, the most eligible Tamil speaking woman is a lawyer, while the most sought-after male is a tech professional.

Adhish Zaveri, AVP Marketing, Shaadi.com, states, “This study indicates that as a nation, while we’re moving in the right direction for gender equality in marriages, we still have a long way to go in terms of truly balanced relationships. Who we find desirable is really the first point of establishing what this equation would look like after marriage and the insights we’ve uncovered in this study are an honest reflection of Tamils’ view on desirability in the context of finding a life partner. Aspects such as higher desirability for working women and specifically those with higher income are strong indicators that we are making important strides in bringing and retaining women in the workforce. Most importantly, with around half of India’s working women coming from TN, Tamils are really paving the way in showing the nation how it is really done.”
