If there is one feeling each of us has felt at some point in our lives, it is the immense pain that follows a heartbreak. Siddhant Bansal’s latest soulful single, ‘Main Kya Kahun’ pays ode to this universal sentiment. Through the use of relatable lyrics and soft vocals, the song expresses the vulnerability, insecurity and betrayal that often accompanies a romantic breakup – encapsulating the story of unrequited love.
Originally from Mumbai, Bansal does not claim to have a musical background or long-term training in this field. In fact, he pursued his passion only after receiving recognition and rewards for his musical talent, as a university student in Jaipur. He taught himself instruments such as the keyboard, guitar and drums, which helped him balance the absence of professional training in singing. Since then, he has created over 50 successful cover versions and 5 original compositions to much acclaim. He humbly claims, “I am so thankful for the great support that I have received from loved ones and fans. They have helped me cement the belief in myself and allowed me to attain these heights.”
The pandemic was a period of reflection and growth for many, and particularly for Bansal. He used his time wisely and built upon his innermost feelings, which gave birth to ‘Main Kya Kahun’. When the song was near completion, he connected with popular Music Producer Sid Paul to collaborate on it, who added just the right pizzazz needed to complete it. Bansal truly believes that collaborations with other artists elevate the work to create music that makes a strong mark.
The problem he faced most acutely with this single was its ending. He claims, “it took me 1 year and 5 months to find the perfect ending for the song. Just as with love stories, I was waiting for something magical to happen that would help me find closure and finish the song. And then I collaborated with Sid Paul. I believe if something does not come to you, then you should go looking for it! After all, everything happens for a reason, and for your own good - hona tha jo, hua hai wahi!"
‘Main Kya Kahun’ attempts to relay the message that some love stories are meant to be short-lived, no matter how hard one tries to keep them alive. Toxic relationships must end, else they continue to keep the person unhappy for years. Bansal explains, “finding closure from a bad relationship and learning to move on by overcoming your fear of loving again, is a lesson that we must learn. For many, this acceptance of heartbreak and their love having failed, is the hardest bridge to cross. They continue to live in denial or hope for some miracle to happen for years on end, but that is so unhealthy.”
Bansal’s song ‘Main Kya Kahun’ has received the support of numerous platforms that encourage independent artists who make original music. It is set to premiere on Red FM on May 4, during their Indie music program from Monday to Friday called Red Indies Shuffle, which is aired across 36 cities of India. Additionally, Mirchi Indies by Radio Mirchi will also feature this song through an Insta Live session scheduled for May 4. The song has also been featured in two of Spotify India's editorial playlists – ‘Sad Indie Bops’ and ‘Incoming Indie’. It will be available for streaming on all leading platforms after its premiere.
