Zubin Mehta recently conducted the Australian World Orchestra for the first time in New Delhi at the Jawaharlal Nehru Weight lifting Indoor Stadium in an evening of filled by classical music enthusiasts and supporters.
The 79-year-old virtuoso received a standing ovation for an over three-hour-long performance. Mehta swished his baton with a theatrical flourish to herald the first composition of the evening 'Overture' from Wolfgang Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro".
The highlight of the evening also included the powerful voice of soprano Greta Bradman, granddaughter of Australian cricket legend Sir Don Bradman.
The musical performance commenced with the Overture from Wolfgang Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro as the first composition and was set to a soaring crescendo of violins trumpets and drums from a strong musical team comprising of musicians from Berlin, Vienna and Israel Philharmonic, the Chicago, London, Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras.
