Serendipity Arts has today announced an open call inviting artists across the country for the Serendipity Arts Residency, an annual three-month artists’ residency program based out of New Delhi. Applications are invited from emerging artists working across disciplines, including a broad range of forms such as music, dance, theatre, visual practices, movement-based practices, and artists engaged in other innovative media.
The deadline for submitting the application will be April 23, 2023 at 11:59 pm IST, until further announcements of extensions, which if happens will be communicated through Serendipity Arts social media handles.
Now in its sixth edition, Serendipity Arts Residency is an intensive studio-based residency that seeks to provide its residents space and resources to develop their practice, work on a new project and interact with the broader art community in New Delhi.
For this edition, Serendipity Arts Residency will host one French artist as part of the Villa Swagatam initiative in partnership with the French Institute in India. Five artists-in- residence from India, to be selected by an external jury, appointed by Serendipity Arts and one curator-in-residence will be selected by nomination.
The residency will start on the 1st of July and conclude with an open studio in the 1st week of October. The selection of residents will be made after applications are reviewed by a jury panel. Over 3 months, the residents selected for the programme will participate in a line-up of peer-to-peer conversations, critique sessions, gallery and studio visits, performances, masterclasses, workshops, artist talks and presentations etc., which enable the residents to explore the arts eco-system, build connections and deeper understanding that will help them with their practice. Practitioners from all disciplines are eligible to apply.
The open call applications will be reviewed by a jury, who will also guide the practices of the shortlisted residents at various stages in the residency programme.
The curator-in-residence will contextualize the residency and curate the Open Studio at the end of the residency. The artists-in-residence and the curator-in-residence will have the opportunity to regularly engage with each other, discuss their practice, conceptualize ideas and details about their works for the residency.
A few points to remember for the applicants are that they must not be more than 35 years of age at the time of submission. The residency is open only to Indian Citizens residing in the country. Applicants must not have attended a residency in the past 1 year. The Jury’s decision in selecting the artist-in-residence will be considered final and not subject to any appeal for reconsideration. An incomplete or incorrect application will automatically be ineligible.
