The 'Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards' is an annual nationwide search to identify and recognize school students who have made a positive difference in their communities through volunteer community service. Anchor Ritika Jhanji hosted the awards.
Introduced in India in 2010, this programme is an extension of ‘The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards,’ the largest youth recognition programme in the United States, conducted by Prudential Financial, Inc. (PFI) for the last 24 years.
Over the last 9 years, more than 40,000 students have participated in this initiative by sending in their applications and of them, around 700 students have been recognized for their remarkable community service efforts.
Anand Kumar, Founder, SUPER 30 was the special guest for the evening. He is one of India's top mathematics educator and founder of 'Super 30'. He is best known for his Super 30 program that provides free coaching underprivileged students for IIT JEE. Last year's bollywood film 'SUPER 30' with Hrithik Roshan in the lead was based on Anand Kumar's Life.
The national winners were selected by an eminent jury panel comprising Gauri Sharma Tripathi, one of UK’s leading Kathak artistes; Huma Masood, National Programme Officer – Gender and Education, UNESCO New Delhi; Madhavan Narayanan, Editor, writer and columnist; Manoj Gopalakrishna, CEO of CARE India and Prof. Neera Agnimitra, Head of School of Social Work, Delhi University.
Anoop Pabby, MD & CEO, Pramerica Life Insurance Ltd. presented the awards along with Mr. Anand Kumar.
Known for fusing Bollywood style choreography with Indian classical and folk dance, Dancesmith enthralled the audience with their performance.
