Omicron Scare Hits Weddings Yet Again

Amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and rising cases of new Omicron variant in the entire country, there are several soon to be married couples who are finding themselves in a difficult situation yet again along with the wedding industry which can face the heat again.

As the fear of Coronavirus rises, several couples have decided to push their wedding dates which are leading vendors in the direction of uncertainties.

Since the time of the pandemic, the interest for print invites has seen a distinct decrease, preparing for computerised invitation cards. Nonetheless, with the latest possible moment changes as far as dates and settings, merchants are feeling the tension.

The wedding planners are saying that due to the ongoing situation, couples are shifting their wedding dates to new ones to avoid inconvenience.

Meanwhile, the situation has also put up hurdles for several already planned holiday travel and end-of-the-year parties like Christmas and New Year.

This can also affect the revenue in the hospitality industry as most of the people from the industry depend upon these big events which generate enough revenue.

Amid the rising case of Omicron in the country, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation recently circulated an advisory to the residents of Mumbai and urged them to avoid gatherings on New Year’s Eve.

According to the official guidelines, closed places like restaurants and halls will have to adhere to a capacity cap of 50 per cent, open venues will have a capacity cap of 25 per cent. The Corporation has also decided to send out persons to check if residents are following the guidelines or not.

Citing the existing COVID-19 rules, the District Disaster Management Authority of New Delhi has also issued guidelines for the cancellation of Punjabi singer A P Dhillon’s concert at Andaz hotel in Aerocity due to the ongoing scare of the Omicron variant.

Down South, the COVID-19 technical advisory committee of Karnataka has recommended curbs, including a nightly curfew from December 30 to January 2 when the violations of curbs are expected to be high which further can lead to spread of the virus.
