MG Motor India & The Better India bring together six women trailblazers in an event produced by 70 EMG

As a culmination of the #MGChangemakers campaign, MG Motor India and The Better India, in an event produced by 70 EMG, organized a joint session with six women change makers and Nandita Das, noted actor and social activist, and UN Women India; to encourage more women to get inspired and bring about a positive change in the society. The event, which took place in Mumbai, further highlighted the bravado efforts of these women trailblazers.

During the past six weeks, MG Motor India has successfully highlighted the incredible work that six Indian women have done for marginalised communities and those that find themselves at the fringes.

The event was aimed at bringing the much-deserved media attention on the efforts of the extraordinary women featured in the campaign - Noted transgender activist Kalki Subramaniam; Padma Shri awardee Sudha Varghese; women-led rural banking pioneer Chetna Sinha; India’s youngest sarpanchJabna Chauhan; Dr. Rani Bang; and the founder of North-East Network (NEN), Monisha Behal. Along with them, the event was graced by actor, director and activist Nandita Das as the Chief Guest. The event saw a stimulating panel discussion moderated by Tanaya Singh, Deputy Editor, The Better India. Pallavi Singh, the Head of Marketing for MG Motor India and Nishtha Satyam - Deputy Country Representative, UN Women MCO for India, Bhutan,Maldives and Sri Lanka were amongst the other participants. 

Along with the 6 featured change makers, many other women who have been doing exemplary work in the fields of social growth and development were also a part of the Unconference. These included Upasana Makati, who was also named in the‘Forbes 30 under 30’ listfor her work as the Founder and Publisher of White Print, Deane De Menezes - Winner of Queen’s Young Leaders’ Award, Dedeepya Reddy - Founder Chal Range De and a TEDx Speaker, SaireeChahal- Founder ofSheroes and Tanushri - Founder of Chindi. 

In keeping with the theme of the campaign, the panel discussion focussed on equal access for women to education, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes. The deliberations focussed on how these are rights that not only benefit women but benefit humanity at large. By investing in the empowerment of women, the panelists discussed, the country makes gains on the alleviation of poverty and fuels sustainable economic growth as well.

Speaking at the event, Chief Guest, Nandita Das said, “The reception to and the outcome of the #MGChangemakers campaign has been truly fitting to the incredible work that the women catalysts of change have been doing in their specific spheres. They have set an unparalleled example of what women are capable of achieving if they only make up their mind to challenge status quo and the scale of social impact that they can create is there for all to see.
