In one of the largest and most elaborate drone and fireworks shows in the history of cinema, Marvel President Kevin Feige had a surprise in store for the crowd at the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine' panel at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2024. The cast of the movie gathered on the night of 25 July.
When the panel wrapped up, Feige had a treat planned at 9.40 pm wherein the crowd at PetCo Park was asked to look up and lo behold! Marvel Studios unfurled and lit up the sky with an astounding spectacle of Galactus who was revealed as the villain, and the iconic Fantastic Four logo in a drone and fireworks show.
Galactus & Fantastic Four Reveal
During a drone show above the San Diego Padres baseball stadium, the planet-eater Galactus appeared in the night sky. The massive figure of Galactus hovered briefly before transforming into the Fantastic Four logo, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. This dramatic reveal introduced Galactus, portrayed by Ralph Ineson, as the main antagonist in the upcoming Fantastic Four film.
The cast for Marvel's new Fantastic Four film was announced earlier this year. Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic. Vanessa Kirby will portray Sue Storm, The Invisible Woman. Joseph Quinn will take on the role of Johnny Storm, The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will play Ben Grimm, aka The Thing.
The Movie & Box office numbers
The Fantastic Four, which was released on 25 July. The film takes place in 1960s New York, but Feige had hinted at the event that it might not be the New York fans are familiar with. There was another piece of art that they had released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol, and there was a cityscape in the corner of that image, Feige mentioned on The Official Marvel Podcast.
The film features Galactus, a character who previously appeared in the 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Known for consuming planets to sustain his life force, Galactus is a formidable foe of the Fantastic Four and is often accompanied by his herald, the Silver Surfer.
Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the first film franchise in history to surpass $30 billion at the global box office. This milestone was announced during the studio's Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, led by Feige.
The latest entry in the series, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, pushed the franchise past this significant milestone, earning $96 million on its opening day in North America. This is the biggest opening ever for an R-rated release and the sixth-highest of all time. The film is expected to generate between $195 million and $205 million domestically and approximately $380 million to $400 million globally by the end of 28 July.
