Key Takeaways from EEMA's Dil Ki Baat session with President Roshan Abbas: Anchor Swati Sharma

Roshan Abbas the celebrated RJ, TV host, actor and Event Entrepreneur, who is now also wearing the hat of being EEMA President came online to address a few queries from the event artist fraternity represented by the artist committee, on many relevant aspects pertaining to general trade practices and specifically on COVID-19 impact and issues that have risen as a result.

The session took place on 14 December 2020 and was Moderated by Ace Emcee Gitikka Ganju Dhar.

Here are some key takeaways to note:

What is the importance of contracts and the role they play in avoiding miscommunication?

Roshan ( elaborated in his own storyteller style): Contracts serve an important purpose and industry should not shy away from their use where need be. Standardised, professional contracts can be beneficiary for both artist and agencies in getting specific needs met. There must be that recognition of the need for reasonable margins of negotiation and understanding.

What is the role of emcees in virtual events?

R: Basic expectation is troubleshooting and engaging. Value addition with acts or activity ideas like quiz software or more creative ideas would set the emcee apart and put them in a stronger position to pitch higher fees.

What are some new areas of growth?

R: I see a great new opportunity as in future many events would be carried out on stage as well as online, hence there will be two hosts one on-field and one for broadcast.

Should artist go back to day jobs?

R: I suggest developing a side hustle or hustles with the time on your hand.

Fiverr.com, freelancer.in & lancify.net are sites that show various freelance career options. There are highlights for new careers, you can check those and develop a skill complementing to your previous strengths. Example: good anchors also write well hence they can write content, or turning a podcast into content property and being paid by sponsorships.

Is there a possibility of emcees competing with virtual hosts?

RIt will happen, a bit later in India perhaps. There will surely be virtual Emcees, but the input still has to be monitored by a human behind the avatar.

When will we see events with capacity of 500 to 1000 people?

R: By August as per my estimate, keeping the margin for vaccination trials in mind. 2020 has been about survival, it will still be about survival till July 2021.
