According to a media report, in recent years, Jammu and Kashmir has experienced a remarkable surge in tourist numbers, with a threefold annual increase in foreign arrivals, according to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Speaking at the 'J&K Tourism Development Conclave' held at SKICC, Sinha attributed this influx to administrative policies and industry support initiatives.
"We have witnessed unprecedented growth post-Covid pandemic and roughly 300 per cent YoY (Year-on-Year) increase in foreign tourists.
Greater efforts and attention were paid to new policies, conducive environment, stimulus for the tourism industry and new experiences and value creation for year-round employment," Sinha mentioned.
He emphasised the need for strategic partnerships among the administration, local communities, and the travel industry to enrich tourists' experiences. Sinha also encouraged experts and industry leaders to explore the potential of adventure, border and heritage tourism, lesser-known destinations, golf, bird-watching, and agro-tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. Highlighting the potential of destination weddings, he noted their role in driving tourism growth in the region. Sinha also mentioned Bollywood's return to the valley after decades.
During the two-day conclave, attendees, including film industry figures like Imtiaz Ali, Vishal Bhardwaj, Kabir Khan, and Sanjay Suri, will discuss strategies for promoting sustainable tourism in J&K.
