International Coach Federation celebrates International Coaching Week in Mumbai

The President of the Mumbai Chapter, CN Murthy, PCC said, “An organization’s need to innovate, learn and build leadership at every level, is calling out louder than ever before. Research shows that people in India claim to be aware of coaching. There however, seems to be a gap in understanding what professional coaching is really all about. The events organised by the chapter during the week aimed at increasing this awareness amongst stakeholders. ICF coaches around the world offered a variety of activities and pro bono services in their local communities to help individuals and organizations experience professional coaching. As ICF Mumbai we are thrilled to have hosted three webinars and a few Corporate Coaching Taster events this year. They have helped build awareness about coaching and has also helped the coaching fraternity enhance their knowledge. The team of esteemed coaches who contributed in making the initiative a success was Priya Sharma Shaikh, Harmeet Anand, Nidhi Arora, Latha Iyer, Narayanan Shankaran, Anjali Choudhari, Kartik Vyas, Swati Srivastava, Aparna Mehra, Pradeep Vaishnav, Gopal Sehjpal and Sujatha Jain”.
Harmeet Anand who hosted the webinar on Somatic Coaching by BEATRIZ GARCIA, PCC said, “Beatriz empahised on aspects of the Body and that our body always tells the truth. We learnt that we all have the ability to choose the right body disposition most suitable to get the kind of results we are looking for, but we don’t know most of the time that we need to make a shift in our body dispositions as well. Moving from one body disposition to another is not easy. The key to such shifts is to be acquainted to the state of ‘Centre’. It is easier to choose from the Centre - The Centre of the Body being the Dantian, of Language being Silence and of Emotions being Acceptance.”
The webinar featuring ELENA ESPINAL, MCC was hosted by Priya Sharma Shaikh, “It was a joy to host Elena who took time out from her vacation to share about Competencies and Sensibilities. She says we are historical beings and that we live more from the past because we are placed in our stories. As a coach we do not fix the past and instead focus on making our coachees do a shift from doingness to beingness so that they can create a future that is not a continuation of their past. By moving from resisting historicity, we generate emotions of resignation and resentment, while accepting the same creates excitement, ambition and acceptance. Further she touched upon the moods of wonder, awe and gratitude, which when cultivated create a way of being that supports us in our physiology (by balancing our hormones, etc) and also our ways of doing.
The last webinar of the week had ANDY MOLINSKY as the guest speaker. This event was hosted by Nidhi Arora who said, “Andy, the author of Global Dexterity and Reach, Brandeis Professor and Harvard Business Review writer Harvard University said that if you are not out of your comfort zone, you won't learn anything. He discussed how simple but effective techniques can to help Y=you step outside your comfort zone, rise to the challenge and build confidence. What often sets successful people apart is their willingness to do things that most of us fear. What's more, we have the false notion that successful people like to do these things, when the truth is that successful people have simply found theirown way to do them. There are five key challenges underlying our avoidance tendencies: authenticity, competence, resentment, likability and morality. Does the new behavior you're attempting feel authentic to you? Is it the right thing to do? Answering these questions will help identify the "gap" in our behavioral style that we can then bridge by using the three C's: Clarity, Conviction, and Customization. Many people who confront what they were avoiding come to realize that they actually enjoy it, and can even be good at it."
