Insider.in alongside Bhasha Centre and director Tanvi Shah have revealed the dates for the pottery studio farmhouse edition of Unshared Childhoods, under their ‘Manch’ initiative, known for pushing the boundaries of traditional theatre. Be part of this uniquely immersive experience on the 14 – 15 September, 2024 and 21 - 22 September,2024 at Winding Road Studios, Titwala.
Conceived, designed, and directed by Tanvi Shah, Unshared Childhoods is a collective effort at imagination and un-Othering disguised as a performance. The piece delves into the notion that all desires stem from a space of absence in a world that feels increasingly more volatile and isolated. It brings together eight real unsent letters from around the world, combined with live music, movement, and food under one roof to create an unforgettable narrative
This intimate theatrical experiment in empathy draws inspiration from teenage party games, Marquez’s short stories, and romanticised visuals of messages in glass bottles afloat at sea. The audience members will sit around a handmade patchwork quilt made by generational godhadi weavers for this show, reflecting on their individual and collective pasts in what feels like a family reunion.
After the performance, participants will have the chance to not just interact with the artists but also carve telegrams onto clay tablets, recreating one of the oldest forms of expression. This wonderfully tactile experience is made even more memorable as completed pieces can be fired in a kiln. Apart from this, attendees will be treated to authentic Maharashtrian food before and after the show for breakfast and lunch.
Unshared Childhoods premiered in 2019 in Glasgow as part of a call for original works created for intimate spaces. Since then, it has captivated audiences with 21 performances in living rooms, art galleries, and rooftop terraces across Mumbai.
