As per media reports, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has revealed that India plans to transform the North and South Blocks of Delhi's Raisina Hill complex into the world's largest museum by 2025, surpassing the size of France's Louvre museum.
He revealed that an agreement has been finalized between France and India for this ambitious project in the field of tourism and culture. Shekhawat expressed his pride and enthusiasm about overseeing the execution of this monumental museum initiative.
Speaking to the media in his Jodhpur Lok Sabha constituency, he shared his thoughts after visiting the area for the first time since assuming office as a Union cabinet minister.
"Once the Central Vista redevelopment project is complete and offices are shifted in 2025, the North and the South Blocks will be converted into a museum and it will be the world's largest museum," he pointed out, adding that the museum will be nearly twice the size of Paris's Louvre. Shekhawat emphasised that the proposed museum aims to narrate India's history spanning more than 5,000 years.
Additionally, the Union minister mentioned that India, as a signatory to the World Heritage Committee, will host its first meeting next month.
"I am sure that India, which occupies the third place in the world in the number of world heritage sites, will get one more heritage site this time," he continued.
