ICC Ratifies European T20 Premier League: Maiden Tournament To Take Place In 2025

With its inaugural edition scheduled from 15 July to 3 August, 2025, the ETPL is a collaborative initiative by the cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially approved the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), a new franchise-based T20 tournament scheduled to take place annually. The inaugural edition is scheduled for 15 July to 3 August 2025.

The ETPL is a collaborative initiative by the cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands. It marks a milestone in European cricket. Privately owned, the league aims to raise the sport's profile across the continent.

During the planning phase, an interim working group was formed with representatives from the participating boards. The group partnered with Rules Sport Tech as a strategic collaborator to bolster funding, streamline decision-making, and establish an administrative body for the tournament.

Elaborating on this development, Warren Deutrom, Chair of the interim working group mentioned, “We are delighted to confirm the ICC sanction of the ETPL, and agreements are now in place across the joint venture partners. This is an important day in the development of the event, as it effectively fires the starting pistol on work around three important areas – franchise ownership, broadcast, and the player draft.”

The ETPL aims to attract top-tier cricket talent while establishing a new hub for the sport in Europe, with further details on franchise operations and player selection expected in the coming months.
