Sawant addressed reporters, highlighting the challenges posed by existing Central Act sound regulations enforced by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB). He emphasised the need to view the issue from a tourism perspective, particularly in promoting Goa as a wedding destination.
Sawant assured that sound-proof venues would face no obstacles in obtaining permission for events extending beyond 10 pm.
He recognised the cultural and religious significance of post-wedding rites following the Church nuptials and noted an urgent need to grant some relaxation with regard to sound permission beyond 10 pm. A balanced approach can be adopted to allow some relaxation in sound regulations rather than a complete shutdown by 10 pm. This can be done by lowering the decibel levels to minimise disturbance, he mentioned.
