Goa's Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, along with Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, IT, Electronics & Communications, Printing and Stationery, recently unveiled a suite of groundbreaking digital and tourism initiatives at a ceremony held in Mantralaya, Porvorim. Spearheaded by the Departments of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, and Tourism, these initiatives mark a significant step towards enhancing Goa’s digital infrastructure and cementing its reputation as a premier tourist destination.
Key highlights include the launch of free public Wi-Fi hotspots at 75 locations across the state, providing seamless digital connectivity for residents and visitors alike. Additionally, the installation of 11 new BSNL 4G towers aims to strengthen mobile network coverage, reflecting the government’s dedication to improving communication infrastructure. The newly introduced ‘Let's Goa’ platform offers tourists an intuitive tool to explore the state’s attractions, while the One Map Goa GIS (Geographic Information System) portal is set to enhance spatial planning, infrastructure development, and governance efficiency in Goa.
Sawant highlighted the significance of these initiatives in advancing digital inclusion, enabling smart governance, and fostering a modernized tourism ecosystem. He said, "Guided by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's Digital India vision, Goa is moving confidently into the future with Digital Goa. With this launch, Goa is taking a significant step forward in the Digital Kranti. This bold initiative is about leveraging technology to empower every citizen and unlock new opportunities. From free WiFi hotspots, particularly benefiting students, and 4G towers ensuring seamless connectivity across the state, to the GIS Portal transforming governance and the Let's Goa platform boosting tourism and local businesses, we are building a digitally inclusive and innovative Goa.”
