Event Industry Leaders Discuss The Need To Recognize Events As An Industry

At the BW Applause and everythingexperiential.com Summit and Awards, a panel discussion on the need to recognize events as an industry was attended by eminent thought leaders from the event industry. The eminent panel included names like: Harjinder Singh Jindi, Managing Director, ShowWorks Events, Major KJS Gurna, Treasurer, EEMA  , Himanshu Shah, Chief Mentor, SOI Group & General Secretary, EEMA, Vipul Pandhi, Managing Director, Workaholics India & Vice President - North, EEMA. The session was chaired by Lakshmikant Gupta, Founder, CMO Now.

Opening the session, Gupta asked the panellists why there was need to recognize events as an industry and what was lacking that could bring the required changes in the industry.

“The industry is not recognised but it is there. Events and travel & tourism need to be nurtured in India which will bring the required change in the industry and in the economy of the country,” said KJS Gurna.

Harjinder Jindi pointed out that the need for the industry to be recognised is to bring the focus more on the stake holders.

Himanshu Shah said, “The industry is not recognised by government which is the need because with no recognition one does not get the required benefits”.

Vipul Pandhi, Managing Director, Workaholics India & Vice President - North, EEMA stated that there was a lot of debate happening within the stake holders about the benefits they will get if they come together and that is also a reason for the delay industry not recognised.

Following this comment, Gupta further asked that if the industry is not able to represent itself then why will the government take it seriously?

KJS Gurna said, “A regulatory body is essential for our industry and that will only come in when events are recognised as industry. Once we are represented the government support will come in, lack of talent will be filled and problems in organising the events can be overcome in a well planned manner.”
