Event Crashers: Here’s How To Identify Them

We are all aware of event crashers, those innocuous-looking people who have nothing to do with the event except gulp down some drinks and savor some good food.

Go to any top event in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore, especially corporate events, there are organised groups of gate crashers who know more about the event than the real guests do, have WhatsApp groups in place, and put on appearances to merge with the surroundings.

While we know that event crashers exist, the big question is how to identify them. To make it simpler for you, here are some traits to look out for while spotting event crashers:

Self-appointed Salespersons

You will meet people who are looking for chances to promote themselves or their product/brand on a minimal budget as they are not sponsored. They believe there may be a chance to make a sale, therefore crashing such corporate events.

How to recognise them

These salespeople are undoubtedly present somewhere around the event's boundary. They are selling items that don't exactly suit the occasion or target market while employing a table that doesn't appear to belong at the event. Just move around and you will surely catch them.

Other Events Intruders

Members of this category aren't actually "crashers" in the traditional sense. They signed up and paid to attend at least some of your events, but while seeking for opportunities to make contacts for future benefits, or hear a particular speaker, for example—they crash the event they aren’t invited to.

How you can recognise them

Other-events intruders give off a lost or frantic appearance. They will seek assistance if they make a mistake. They will avoid eye contact and leave the check-in queue if they are attempting a last-minute switch-up.

Bucket-list checkers

People who always want something adventurous and always seek something interesting to do to bluff among their friends. They only want to high-five and eventually tell the tale of how they sneaked into a conference or event while on vacation undetected. They aren't there to cause trouble. These people are just here for adventure and stories and obviously free food and cocktails loaders.

How you can recognise them

Disheveled state of dressing, looking confused and giving each other the look. Are always looking at their watch so that they could leave or get the free food.

Fake journalists

People who are there just for the food or to make connections with the A-listers. These people even have fake badges or business cards which makes it hard to recognise them among the crowd.

How you can recognise them

One can arrange an access pass or QR code which will make it easier to enquire about these trespassers.

Pseudo Experts

These people are hard to track as they have a tidbit of knowledge about the industry. Pseudo experts at times convincingly pose as real experts with a great command over language and impeccable dress sense.

How to recognise them

It is hard to track when it comes to these pseudo-experts as they talk about knowledge. One can only be able to track them through the proper registration process or can do a double-inquiry at the entry gate.
