In a notable move amidst the online #BoycottMaldives campaign, EaseMyTrip, has chosen to suspend all flight bookings to the Maldives. This decision comes in response to derogatory remarks made by certain ministers of Maldives (now suspended) against India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly regarding his recent visit to Lakshadweep.
Expressing solidarity with the nation, Nishant Pitti, the co-founder and CEO of EaseMyTrip, announced on social media (formerly Twitter), "In solidarity with our nation, @EaseMyTrip has suspended all Maldives flight bookings." The company, headquartered in New Delhi, initiated a campaign promoting visits to Lakshadweep with the hashtag #ChaloLakshadweep.
Prashant Pitti, in a post on 4 January, emphasised the beauty of the water and beaches of Lakshadweep, comparing them to Maldives and Seychelles. He pledged that EaseMyTrip would introduce special offers to promote this pristine destination recently visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As tensions between India and the Maldives escalated, the #BoycottMaldives hashtag gained momentum on social media, leading to reports of Indian tourists cancelling their planned vacations to the island nation.
