The capital will host an adaptation of Amrita Pritam’s renowned novel ‘Pinjar’ (The Skeleton). This stage play, directed by Chand Khan, will bring to life the poignant story set during the Partition of India, a defining moment in the subcontinent's history.
‘Pinjar’ tells the gripping tale of Puro, a Hindu girl who is abducted by Rashid, a Muslim man, amidst the chaos and violence of Partition. Her desperate escape and subsequent rejection by her own family, who consider her defiled, underline the brutal realities faced by countless women during this period. This narrative, rich in emotional depth, captures the essence of human endurance and the tragic consequences of communal conflict.
This stage adaptation is not just a drama but a musical portrayal of a turbulent time, adding layers of emotion and cultural richness to the story. Under Khan’s direction, the musical elements are set to enhance the audience's connection to the characters and their struggles.
Tamashaonstage, an emerging theatre group known for its culturally significant performances, will present this two-hour play. The group has previously garnered acclaim for productions like ‘Kali Salwar’, ‘Ilhaam’, ‘Thanda Gosht’, ‘Park’, and ‘Lottery’. Their dedication to bringing thought-provoking and culturally rich stories to the stage makes ‘Pinjar’ a highly anticipated performance.
The play will be performed on 15 June 2024 at 6 p.m. at the SRC Auditorium in Mandi House. Tickets are available for purchase on BookMyShow.
