Organised by 16-year-old Ivaan Lakhani, the tournament was held on 21 and 22 December, 2024 at Skyturf @Inspire BKC, Mumbai

The second season of the Bombay Ballers Football Tournament brought Skyturf @Inspire BKC to life with two days of thrilling football action. Organised by 16-year-old Ivaan Lakhani, the tournament, held on 21 and 22 December, 2024 united 32 teams in two independent age group tournaments, marking a significant milestone in Mumbai's grassroots football scene.

The tournament, featuring 16 teams in each of the two age categories for athletes aged 14 and above, created an electrifying atmosphere. Young footballers displayed impressive skill and determination, thrilling spectators with their performances. The energy in the stands fuelled the excitement of the games.

The event wasn’t just about fierce competition but also about fostering community spirit. Between matches, young players mingled and shared experiences, and engaged in friendly games, exemplifying how sports can unite and inspire. The seamless organisation and attention to detail throughout the tournament reflected the organisers' passion for football and commitment to creating a positive, inclusive environment for young athletes.

“We’re thrilled by the turnout and the enthusiasm from all participants,” said Lakhani, the driving force behind the Bombay Ballers tournament. “The success of our first season inspired us to plan this second edition, and it’s amazing to see how much love there is for football in our community, especially during the festive season. It gives us great pride to continue our tradition of giving back, as a portion of the proceeds from this tournament will be donated to the Nina Foundation, which supports individuals with spinal cord injuries.”

Lakhani's leadership and vision have been central to the success of the Bombay Ballers tournament. Their dedication to social causes extends beyond football, with a strong focus on using sports as a platform to make a positive impact. This year’s tournament saw an ongoing partnership with the Nina Foundation, an NGO led by Dr. Ketna L. Mehta, dedicated to rehabilitating individuals with spinal cord injuries. A portion of the tournament's proceeds will be donated to the foundation, showcasing the students’ commitment to making a meaningful difference.

“We are delighted to continue our association with the Bombay Ballers tournament,” said Dr. Mehta. “Ivaan's leadership, the community spirit, and the enthusiasm displayed at this event align perfectly with our mission to improve the lives of individuals with spinal cord injuries. This partnership is a powerful example of how sports can bring people together for a greater cause.”

The tournament concluded with FC Cecilians claiming victory in the older age group (2007-08) and FC Fair & Lovely emerging as champions in the younger age group (2009-10). These teams’ exceptional performances capped off a remarkable event, underscoring the talent and potential within Mumbai's young football community.

With the tournament’s success, the Bombay Ballers Football Tournament continues to set a high standard for grassroots football in Mumbai. Plans are already in motion for next year’s edition, promising even more excitement, participation, and community involvement.
