“India is the next big destination for Electric Daisy Carnival”- John Boyle, CFO, Insomniac Events

What does it take to create a festival that draws global attention?

Roshan Abbas, Director, Encompass, conducted a Skype session with John Boyle, Chief Growth Officer and Interim CFO, Insomniac, at EEMAGINE 2016- a convention for the events and experiential marketing industry held on 1- 3 May in New Delhi.

Boyle revealed, “The Electronic Daisy Carnival is the largest music festival in North America seeing an attendance of over 4,00,000 people and alive from 6:oo pm to 6:00 am.”

He continued, “EDC in its 20th Year now is doing really well in Mexico, Brazil and various other cities and we feel that India is now our biggest market. We see it as an obligation to uplift the music festival experience here.”

Their immediate goal is to bring the biggest music festival experience to India and it is not just about the music it’s about the whole experience of the festival, lights, installations, the works. They want people to come enjoy be themselves and believe the whole experience starts from the time when the person buys the ticket.

“In Mexico City, people have to jump-off a massive slide to enter the festival and this is the type of experience we want to create for the Indian market too”, said Boyle.

“A lot of money is spent on production and if it is covered by tickets sales, the sponsorship begins our margin. When entering India we will be looking for long-term sponsorships”, he added.

“It takes minimum of three years to turn around the music festival and make it profitable. We believe we are in competitive field and don’t want the middleman to ruin the festival”, concluded Boyle.

Well EDC, we have our seatbelts on. We lie in wait. Give us what you got!
