Millennials drive the market. They’re the most engaged, adept and opinionated app users of any demographic, which you might expect from a generation of digital natives for whom smartphone usage is second nature. Millennials are used to adapting their technology habits to suit what is most useful or convenient for them, and it just so happens that mobile devices are the ultimate technology of convenience and to be successful it becomes very critical for artists / entertainers to have a mobile strong marketing strategy. 

The usage of technology in Media & Entertainment industry and their merger is critical in creating and environment which is favorable for the artists/entertainers. The emergence of social media sites gave the artists /entertainers a good platform to start promoting / marketing themselves as a brand and market their content. The artists / entertainers worked hard to drive their fans to their social media sites as the social media sites gave them the ability to freely reach out to their fans and communicate to them. 

However all good things come to an end and the success lies in the industry bringing forward new technology, new concepts to usher in a better future. The artists / celebrities today struggle with reach in social media. The very own fans they brought into their social media accounts can’t be reached by them now unless they pay. The IP of the content they post in social media does not belong to them. The content the artists/celebrities create generates views and revenues but the artist / celebrity do not get any share of that revenue. The environment has been unfavorable to the artists / celebrities. 

The next phase of convergence of technology and entertainment will need to move and give more power to content creators and engagement creators as more and more millennials gravitate to increased content consumption in the app environment to overcome loneliness. Technology will and is enabling artists/celebrities to have their own platform in the mobile environment where they control engagement, reach, content, monetization of content, monetization of the artist/celebrity brand through mobile-commerce etc. The age where the convergence of technology and entertainment will allow every celebrity, every content creator to have their own OTT platform and optimize engagement, content consumption, monetization of content is here.

Its time celebrities / entertainers move from rented condos to their own private mansions and own their content, their followers and their universe with the use of technology.
