The Largest Urdu Language Fest ‘Jashn-E-Rekhta’ Is Back In The Capital City

The Largest Urdu language Festival Jashne-E-Rekhta is back and will be held from 2nd to 4th December at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. 

The three-day festival will celebrate the Urdu language and Hindustani culture through Ghazals, Sufi Music, Qawwali, Dastaangoi, Panel Discussions, Mushaira, Poetry Recitations and Celebrity Conversations. 

The festival’s inaugural on 2nd December will be graced by Javed Akhtar followed by a ghazal concert by Hariharan and will conclude on 4th of December with a Sufi music performance by Richa Sharma. The fest has 4 Stages, 60 plus events and 150 plus artists from different corners of the country. 

Jashn-e-Rekhta 2022 has a stellar lineup and includes names like- Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Shah Pathak, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Hariharan, Muzaffar Ali, Richa Sharma, Kumar Vishwas, Shailesh Lodha, Dia Mirza, Shweta Tripathi, Sheykhar Ravjiani, Shilpa Rao, Pratibha Singh Baghel including several other distinguished authors, poets, artistes, literary scholars, and acclaimed personalities like Fahmi Badayuni, Sheen Kaaf Nizam, Shakeel Azmi, Udayan Vajpayee, Farhat Ehsas, Rahgir and many others. 

Sanjiv Saraf, Founder of Rekhta Foundation said, “Jashn-e-Rekhta aims to bring people closer through the celebration of the Urdu language, its music, art, culture, and its Indian ethos. It was last celebrated in December’2019 after which COVID disrupted life as we know it.”

“However, people exhibited remarkable resilience and came together in overcoming this challenge. I am delighted that the 7th edition of Jashn-e-Rekhta 2022 is being held after a period of 3 full years. I invite one and all to join us as we celebrate our cultural heritage and oneness and make the Jashn an unforgettable experience,” he added. 

The three-day festival is organised annually in Delhi under the aegis of Rekhta Foundation - a non-profit organisation, operating a free online resource and the world's largest website and resource for Urdu poetry and literature. The festival aspires to unite language lovers from every part of the world to celebrate the Hindustani language, its rich history and culture.

Speaking on the people’s participation, Satish Gupta, Head of festivals, programs and outreach at Rekhta Foundation said, “In the previous editions, the Jashn has seen a footfall of 1.5 lakhs. This edition is happening after a full 3 years and there has been a tremendous response so far in registrations. Looking at that, we are expecting over 2 lakh in footfalls this year.”

There will also be a curated Food Festival (Aiwan-e-Zaiqa), a Book Exhibition, Art and Craft Bazaar and much more.
