Nucleya, who has performed at global platforms, including the likes of Fringe Festival, Glastonbury festival and Electron festival, feels that the experience is very different as compared to India. “The audience within India has been exposed to Indie music coming out of the country, but internationally, the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Indian music is – Bollywood,” he says. The EDM artist is a star in the universe of parties and music, however, happened to step into this world quite by accident.
Being the proud owner of a coveted computer on passing 10th grade he had, like every post-board exam teenager, planned to install and play video games. But destiny had different plans and a friend of his happened to load Fruity Loops software as well. What started as cooking up a bunch of beats together, led to the beginning of his first band called 'Private Soch-alay', which later went on to become 'Bandish Projekt'.
“Nucleya started as a solo project in 2008 and after years of doing all sorts of remixes and production projects, I finally found my sound,” says Udyan Sagar, the real name behind brand Nucleya.
Presently, Nucleya is looking forward to playing atop a bus for the Red Bull Tour Bus anniversary gig – Off The Roof. Expectations are running high after Off The Roof show had to be called off last year due to heavy rains. In his own words, “In 20 years of being a musician, I had never imagined playing on top of a bus and when I played on the Red Bull Tour Bus for the first time, it was an experience like none other. In my eyes, this is an initiative that is truly pushing the boundaries of live concerts in the country.
Arguably among the most celebrated DJs in India at this time, Nucleya believes perseverance and hard work is the key to success for an aspirant in this industry.
Nucleya launched his first album, Bass Rani at one of the largest Ganesh processions, following his characteristic unconventional approach. He recently went on to launch his latest album Raja Baja with a free concert at NSCI Dome. “I will never be able to forget the feeling I had when I stepped into NSCI on the day of the Raja Baja album launch. I had goose bumps just listening to the audience cheering. I had never imagined that things would ever reach such a level and that day was like a dream come true,” he recounts.
The 3rd edition of The Red Bull Bus Tour which is coming to Hindu Gymkhana grounds in Mumbai on 16th October, will also be featuring Benny Dayal Funktuation- the newly formed outfit of multilingual singer Benny Dayal, rock band Blackstratblues, aswekeepsearching with their experimental post-rock sound and the band Karsh Kale Sound System- performing atop the bus for the first time.
