NCPA@home is back with a unique set of sessions and performances that embraces culture beyond borders

India’s premier cultural institution, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is back with a diverse mix of sessions and performances as a part of the ongoing digital series, ‘NCPA@home’. This week will present engaging content from eminent artistes & speakers with a focus on poetry & literature that has been a part of our existence for over centuries. The archival presentations will take you through fascinating conversations along with a dance performance that captures a true essence of artistic heritage in contemporary times.

 Beyond Words: What things can (perhaps) tell us

A Straight Talk by Neil McGregor

Time: 6.00pm IST

In this session, British Art Historian Neil McGregor attempts to reconstruct complex societies based on designs on a shard of clay or remains in a cup. Additionally, Neil asks a very pertinent question about whether these objects tell us their history, or do we project our usage on them to reflect a world we can understand?

Is There Some Way I Can Reach You?

Bharatanatyam by Alarmel Valli based on the poetry of Annamacharya

Date: 11th July 2020

Alarmel Valli pays tribute to the genius of 15th Century Telugu poet, Annamacharya with verses that evoke the erotic & the existential. This was a part of NCPA Mudra Dance Festival 2013 celebrating the grand heritage of Indian Bhakti poetry- a verse of impassioned longing for the sacred curated by noted poet Arundhathi Subramaniam.
