MotoGP Bharat 2024 Cancelled? Organisers Dismiss Rumours

According to a recent report by Autosport, the event was to be cancelled due to Fairstreet Sports having unpaid dues to the vendors

The MotoGP Indian Grand Prix for 2024 is set to be cancelled and be replaced by the Kazakhstan Grand Prix despite the championship making its first-ever event in Noida, Uttar Pradesh back in September 2023.

According to a report by Autosport, the second edition of the Indian MotoGP will be cancelled due to the promoters, Fairstreet Sports having unpaid dues to the vendors.  Barring any further changes to the schedule, the championship will comprise 20 events, the same as the previous year’s edition.

According to the same report, the decision to cancel the event is final but the official announcement regarding the cancellation will be made after 20 May, the deadline for India’s window to clear out the dues.

Meanwhile, Pushkar Nath Srivastava, CEO, Fairstreets Sports, said the round, remains part of the calendar and all contractual obligations will be met next month.

“The race is very much on. These are just rumours floating around. All of the contractual obligations will be met in June,” Srivastava told PTI.

The event, run with the backing of the Uttar Pradesh state government, is made possible by public funding. With Lok Sabha Elections going on and a Model Code of Conduct in place, the UP government are reportedly unable to pay Dorna until the MCC is lifted.

Uttar Pradesh had provided financial assistance of Rs 18 crore to Fairstreet Sports for the inaugural edition.
