The Kathpuliyan Theatre Group announced an event, Zikr-E-Ghalib, a musical play based on Ghalib’s letter and Ghazals. The event is directed by the architect and playwright Zafer Mohiuddin, it is going to be held on Sunday 4 December 2022 at the Little Theatre Group (LTG) Auditorium, New Delhi.
Mirza Ghalib, a legendary Persian and Urdu Poet of all time, his impact can be seen clearly in Urdu speaking world, also, well-known in the non-Urdu-speaking world, he gave the philosophy of “The prison of life” the idea that life is a struggle that can end when life itself ends is recurrent in his poetry.
Zikr-E-Ghalib is conceptualised as a nostalgic flashback when Mirza Ghalib finds copies of his letters and an unfinished biography in conversations written to his friends and family. Further, it’s a confluence of his selected Ghazals bringing a momentum of Ghalib’s thoughts visualised in a dance form.
The event has live singing performances of poet’s Ghazals and live Kathak performances. It has a unique artist line up including Zafer Mohiuddin, Raghupati Jha, Smitha Srinivasan, Pradeep Belawadi and Aquib Jamal.
A Bangalore-based Kathputliyaan Theatre Group is founded by Zafer Mohiuddin, it is inspired by the words of William Shakespeare, “The world is a stage and all men and women are merely actors.” This organisation was formed in order to focus on addressing significant social issues that are a hindrance to the progress and peace in our society through the medium of theatre as well as promote Indian literature, Arts, Music, and Drama.
The first play of this group, ‘Darwaaze Kholdo,’ was staged in 1988 post which the group presented several Hindi and Urdu plays such as ‘Zabaan Mili Hai Magar,’ ‘Vaastu Chakkar,’ ‘Taj Mahal ka Tender,’ ‘Ek Tha Gadha,’ ‘Daadh ka Dard,’ and many more, all of which played to packed houses.
