Indian Wedding Rituals: Outset Your New Beginnings With Ganesh Puja

Indian weddings are sacred ceremony that unites two people to start their lives together. In general, Indian marriages involve rituals and pre-wedding parties, which extend over several days. Ganesh puja is one such auspicious occasion in every Hindu family, and not any wedding takes place without invoking Lord Vinayak as he is popularly called. After all, worshipping Lord Ganesha is one of the most significant pre-wedding rituals of a traditional Hindu wedding. Performed for good luck, it is usually held a day before the big day to bless the proceedings and prepare the couple for a new beginning. Traditional Indian weddings are incomplete without commemorating Ganesh Puja.

Lord Ganesh is regarded as the God that removes all kinds of obstacles and instills positive vibes. Therefore, before any wedding ritual can start, the couple and their families worship him, praying for a smooth and hurdle-free wedding. This wedding ritual often starts with a stand-alone Ganesh puja, or it takes place along with the wedding. It is believed that worshipping Lord Ganesh before marriage brings prosperity to the couple’s life.

At the same time, Ganesh Puja is also the time to go all creative and come up with interesting decor ideas that not only look great but also help to create a divine environment. A better way to decorate the Ganesh idol and the mandap is using a variety of fresh flowers. Flowers of different colours such as hibiscus, orchids, and roses would look beautiful against a backdrop that is decked up with peacock feathers. The traditional garland of marigold strings around the idol can also give a marvellous effect. The minimal decor with paper art works for a playful and vibrant wedding theme. The lighting also plays a significant role in decorating for Ganesh Puja. The earthen Diyas and lights around the mandap can completely transform the look. Also, string lighting adds glamour to the setting.

On the other hand, with sustainable weddings becoming popular, plants and vines can be opted for Ganesh Puja, to maintain the eco-friendly theme. The pillars of the mandap can be adorned with vines along with other recycled materials, and even we can also go for an eco-friendly Ganesh idol. Another vibrant yet easy option would be decorating with colourful drapes and fabrics. Fancy clothes can be hung behind the idol to create a scalloped curtain. To make your Ganesh decoration stand out, essentially incorporate the theme of your wedding into it. One can decorate using the entire theme, or only pick the predominant colours from it, to give a harmonious look to the celebrations.

Indian wedding ceremonies are elaborate and incredibly distinctive! Going beyond decorations and celebrations, Indian weddings are also encompassed with sacred rituals and traditions. A traditional wedding ceremony entails a series of elaborate wedding events. Beyond creating joyful moments, these events have great significance before the big day. Outset your new beginnings with Ganesh Puja and be successful in life with the grace of Lord Ganesha.
