Addressing The Gender Gap In The Wedding Industry: Prerana Agarwal Saxena

On March 8, we celebrate International Women’s Day annually, celebrating women from all walks of life. From a humble homemaker to the most dashing CEO, women are here to change the world. Being nothing short of superheroes, women are here to make their presence established. Known for their unparalleled strength and resolve, women are some of the best multitaskers that I have ever come across. Whether it be juggling the role of a mother or a wife to a capable leader of the industry, we women can do it all. But it can be seen that women in the wedding planning industry have been united by a certain resolve and a passion to create memorable experiences for one and all.

From the world of communications to working from the office, everything has been changing - formats of all sorts of contact with parties have been changing. We have modified our expectations and molded our way, something that can only be done successfully by women. Costs were kept minimal, and there was a renewed focus on digitalization and managing these two struggles that needed to be addressed in the industry by women. Since childhood, women have been reared in such a way that multitasking is in their blood. Without dropping these balls we have been juggling, women can easily spearhead the tasks that need immediate supervision.

Our initiatives such as the Royal Rendezvous have been successful in the past because of the fact that it was helmed by a team of women. While the wedding industry can have male leaders, there are some nuances that can only be handled by women. They will also feel much more at ease if there is a woman at the forefront since we have an innate ability to zero in on the needs of the people and perfectly execute their dream designs. Alongside, I have been extremely busy with individual mentoring, student counseling, learning new skills, creating content, and hosting webinars and have realized that when we step out of our own worlds, there is an entire universe waiting for the value we can provide, something that women have been doing for years on end.

There is a major myth in the world of wedding planning that it is a cutthroat industry and no woman will be able to make it big in that case. Unlike the corporate world, the world of wedding planning is welcoming and it is easy for a woman to climb the rungs to success in no time. As a parting note, I would like to add that for women, the sky's the limit for their success. Aspiring women entrepreneurs need to start from scratch and never give up despite making mistakes - fall eight times, get up nine. By understanding your strengths and weaknesses, it will be much easier for you to keep on working forward and make this industry a much better place with your creativity and smarts. You need to take one day at a time and believe in yourself. Don’t be too hard on yourself, it takes time to learn about life and camera techniques. The learning for me is that now we need to reinvent ourselves.

Celebrating the indomitable spirit of women; this Women's Day, we are looking forward to seeing the beauty and the stunning willpower of the women in leadership positions. There is no dearth of female mentors who have paved the path of success in the Indian wedding space.
