Formula 4 car racing debuted in Srinagar on 17 March, organised by the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India in collaboration with the Indian Racing League and the Kashmir State Tourism Board. Affiliated with the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), this event aimed to boost tourism in Kashmir while kindling a passion for motorsports among local youth.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of snow-capped peaks, the race unfolded from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on a specially marked 1.7 km track along the banks of Dal Lake, spanning from Lalit Ghat to Nehru Park. Drawing hundreds of spectators, the event showcased professional Formula 4 drivers executing stunts and high-speed manoeuvres along Boulevard Road, nestled at the base of the Zabarwan mountain range.
Post-race, seasoned drivers engaged with aspiring youth, sharing personal insights and experiences related to Formula 4 car racing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced his support for the event through a tweet, underscoring its potential to highlight Kashmir’s beauty and promote motorsports nationwide.
