Saudi Arabia has unveiled ambitious plans for a new motorsport circuit in the emerging city of Qiddiya, hinting at the possibility of hosting two Formula 1 races in the Gulf nation in the future.
Part of the extensive Qiddiya construction project situated 30 miles from Riyadh, the new track will boast 21 corners, including a distinctive elevated first corner dubbed ‘Blade’, soaring 70 meters above a concert space below.
The holographic renderings also reveal a theme park running alongside the circuit, featuring what is projected to be the world's tallest, longest, and fastest rollercoaster, along with a glass-bottomed swimming pool offering panoramic views of the track. However, completion of the project is not anticipated before 2027.
Since 2021, a street circuit along the Jeddah corniche has been hosting the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, with the upcoming fourth edition scheduled for this weekend.
Initially, the plan in Saudi Arabia was for Qiddiya to replace Jeddah upon completion of construction. However, the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation expressed interest last year in hosting two races, pending an agreement with Formula 1.
