Jamia Hamdard University concluded its ‘Sports and Cultural Week 2024’. Over eight days, students from diverse backgrounds united to celebrate their passions and skills.
Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M. Afshar Alam and with support from Chancellor Janab Hammad Ahmad and Sajid Ahmed, CEO, HNF HECA, the festivities commenced with an inaugural ceremony on 19 February. DSW Professor Dr Reshma Nasreen's welcome paved the way for a week teeming with literary, cultural, musical and sports competitions.
Behind the scenes, the core coordination committee, led by Professor Nasreen and comprised of seasoned faculty members like Dr Kursheed Ansari, Professor Sohrab Ahmad Khan, and Professor Farhat Basir Khan, orchestrated the execution of the events.
From artworks to musical performances, various students showcased their talents. Engaging in spirited debates and intellectual competitions further enriched the cultural landscape of the event.
The valedictory ceremonies, attended by guests such as B. Shankar Jaiswal and Danish Ashraf, celebrated the achievements of participants. Indian Idol winner Salman Ali's performance was a highlight of the evening. Ali performed hits like ‘Kali Kali Zulfe’ and ‘Mast Kalandar’ to renditions of Sufi melodies and Punjabi tunes.
Reflecting on the event, Professor Reshma Nasreen, DSW, Jamia Hamdard, expressed, "Salman Ali’s performance was the perfect complement to our week-long sports, cultural and literary festivities."
Similarly, Professor Farhat Basir Khan, CMMS, Jamia Hamdard, remarked, "Salman Ali’s talent, energy and ability to engage with the audience created an unforgettable experience for everyone present."
The Sports and Cultural Week witnessed over 400 awards recognising excellence across various disciplines.
