As per media reports, during a review meeting with officials from Municipal Administration, GHMC, and Water Works at the HMDA office on 23 February, 2024 Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of Telangana proposed the establishment of video billboards in Hyderabad, similar to those seen in Times Square, New York.
Times Square is renowned for its vibrant display of digital billboards, advertisements, and businesses that operate around the clock. Serving as the focal point of the Broadway Theater District and the entertainment industry, Times Square is a bustling pedestrian area with an array of illuminated displays.
It's worth noting that during the BRS regime, strict regulations were imposed by the GHMC on ad displays, including billboards and balloons, encompassing limitations on size, height, and type across Hyderabad.
Nevertheless, the Congress government has opted to alleviate the constraints, as per media reports revealing a new advertisement policy that relaxes restrictions on billboards in Hyderabad. The policy encompasses the allowance of static LED billboards positioned above 15 feet from the ground, a category currently prohibited.
Additionally, Reddy directed officials to facilitate the installation of multi-utility towers and implement measures to enhance the mechanism of street lights.
