As per media reports, cracking down on the illicit activities of unregistered tourist guides and other service providers in Gulmarg, authorities have annnounced stringent measures. They revealed that firm action has been taken, including the filing of FIRs against those found involved.
Officials disclosed that numerous complaints had been lodged against the operations of unregistered tourist guides and other illegal service providers in Gulmarg. In response, a joint team comprising local and tourist police, along with officials from the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) led by its CEO, initiated a comprehensive drive to address these concerns.
It was noted that these unregistered and illicitly functioning service providers often gather in groups at key entry points of Gulmarg, where they aggressively approach tourist vehicles, leading to unnecessary inconvenience for visitors. This behaviour tarnishes the reputation of the globally renowned tourist spot.
According to officials, incoming tourists have consistently voiced their grievances to the authorities regarding these individuals. While taking action against these unethical practices, the culprits attempted to physically confront civil and law enforcement personnel. Consequently, FIRs were lodged against those involved in the dispute.
Tourists and travel organisations have praised the long-awaited crackdown on unethical guides and have urged for ongoing efforts against such individuals, according to the official.
The CEO of Gulmarg has guaranteed that endeavours to organise and monitor tourism services will persist in the future.
